Moon The Dog

The life of a Dog is never easy. These are the trials of a canine existence. With (unwanted) commentary by a cat.

Moon The Dog Nanu The Cat

I am Moon. I am a dog. I live with my sister, Zoey. I am ruled by the Queen Moran. There is also "The Cat", Nanu, who is the bane of my existence. This site is the story of our life under the same roof. Oh yeah, we have a few human servants here, but they will be rarely mentioned.

Watch for Dog Flu

As seen in this CBS Article a new strain of canine flu is going around. They estimate that if you are exposed to it, that you will be effected.

I suggest that until this new bug has passed, or they develop a vacine, you may want to avoid the local kennels. If your humans are around other dogs, have them take care to clean up real good.

Vote often

A while back, I submitted an entry to get onto a Milkbone box. Well, I didn't make the cut for voting, but you should still vote for the new Milkbone Dogs.

I like Gwenie Rumbach (small), Otis (medium), Abbey (large), and Sir Galahad (extra large).

Happy days

While I would have preferred to go out to the ranch, Zoey and I did have a nice day of relaxation in the house. There were no humans around, so we had control of the house.

Lucky for her, Nanu decided to stay upstairs during our reign. While she came down when the humans returned to protect her, Zoey and I had peace and quiet.

We ran and ran and ran, until both of us were tuckered out. We then laid down with each other for comfort.

Then we ran some more. What a happy day.

Cota Meet Foxxy

As the cousins had never met Foxxy before they were very interested in her. For the most part, she stayed away, but whe played a little at the end of the day, when Sam and Cota were used to her.

As you can see, they got along well. While Foxxy was a bit hesitant with the other big guys, it is just a matter of time before all will be friends.

I hope that we get to go to the ranch next time. as it is a fun place to frolic and run.

However, my sister and I had fun of our own at home.

More Bad News for Pits

According to this news report, the Australian state of Victoria is going to eradicate American pit bull terriers.

About 600 pit bulls are registered in Victoria and the breed was responsible for about 50 attacks last year, although most of those were by unregistered dogs.

The state's agriculture minister, Bob Cameron, says no new pit bulls will be allowed to be registered after the laws take effect in the next few months. Those that are resigstered must be desexed.

"However, if anybody doesn't want to register their pit bull, then that dog can be seized and destroyed by council enforcement officers."

Come on people. This is getting ridiculous.

Meet Sam

This is Sam. He is the oldest of the cousins and lives at the ranch all the time. He is the official guard. He doesn't like to have his picture taken, so this is the best shot that the humans were able to get.

Of course, that is Cota in the picture. I think that they are smelling the area that was just visited by Foxxy.

While Foxxy didn't get to play very much, at least she got to meet the boys (That little primadonna spent most of the day on the screen-porch, in the lap of luxury.) The boys seemed to take to her though (neither tried to eat her).

Meet Cota

This weekend, Foxxy was able to take a car trip to go visit our cousins. While we were not able to go, we got to take a peek at some pictures.

This is Cota. He is one of three canine cousins that live at the ranch. He was rescued from the pound a while back to stay with some other humans. However, when they had a bunch of human puppies, Cota had to move to the ranch until the little things get bigger.

The ranch is real nice. There is a bunch of grass to run on and there are little furry cat-things with long ears and white fluffy tails that hop around. They are real fast. Unfortunately, they usually stay on the other side of the fence where we can't get them.

Cota, Sam (you will meet sam soon), Zoey and I try to catch them, but have not. Cota used to be the fastest of all of us, but he is getting a bit chunky now. One of us will get one some time. I promise.

Go ahead . . . Draw

Not only is this Foxxy lady quick, she has nerves of steel. I tell you.

Here is a recent photo of the two of us. In between us is the last piece of kibble from lunch. (You would think that one of such little size would not eat much, but she can pack it away.)

Anyway, we were down to the last piece of kibble and I was leaning in to get it and the little rat sprung forward and snatched it away.

I chased her a bit to take a bite out of her (since my kibble was gone), but I gave up after a while and went for the cat instead.

She's Back!

Well, her humans are out again and Foxxy has returned for a visit. She will be with us for a few weeks, so you should expect to see quite a few photos and even some video.

It is quite nice when the little thing comes to visit. While I would rather eat cats, it is fun to chase this little girl too. I wonder what she tastes like . . . I have been able to smell her, but she is a quick little bugger.

Maybe by the end of her visit, I will have caught this little snack and all of my questions will have been answered.

Keep your hands to yourselves.

Prompted by recent BAD behavior by some canines, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 861, sending it to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for his consideration and signature. While it has no teeth in and of itself, the bill allows local governments to require spaying and neutering of specific breeds to reduce the animals' aggressiveness.

While the humans had my sister and I "altered" before getting us from the pound, that was their choice. Had I been asked, I would have chosen to be snipped as opposed to being gassed, so everything worked out.

However, if local governments pick up on this "legislative intent," then some breeds of canines (presumably Pit Bulls) will be REQUIRED to be snipped. No choice!

Humans who do not take responsibility for their animals (or who put them in situations where they are a danger to others) should be punished, not all of the innocent dogs. The first step is to understand. The second to act.

Click on the picture and visit www.therealpitbull.com where they have good information and advice.

Hands off of the ears

California has a proposed new law AB 418 to stop surgical modifications of canines for cosmetic purposes (e.g. boxing ears, etc). I posted on this topic before, but wanted to point out that the bill appears to be stalled. I personally like my floppy ears. They make a neat sound when I flip my head from side-to-side.

If you live in California and want to get this going again, write to your Assemblyman.
